School Based Physical Therapist
$34.00 – $36.50 per hour
Niagara County, New York. Three days a week, real benefits, paid holidays and snow days. A part time pediatric PT role that actually fits around your life.
The job in one paragraph
You evaluate students, set goals, and build the plans of care that help them move safely and independently through the school day. The schedule is three 7 hour school days a week, 21 hours, with a half hour lunch each day, and a 2 day schedule can be discussed. It is a strong fit for a PT who wants meaningful pediatric work alongside another position, family commitments, or simply a lighter week. Pediatric or school based experience helps, but it is not required.
What you would actually be doing
- Evaluating and planning. Assessing students, setting goals, and building individualized plans of care that support the IEP and the way the student actually moves through a school day.
- Treating. Delivering treatment in the therapy room, the classroom and other settings the district designates, including teletherapy when the district calls for it.
- Documenting. Progress notes and documentation kept current, accurate and on time.
- Running your own schedule. You schedule your student sessions and manage a part time caseload independently.
- Equipment. Recommending adaptive equipment and supplies, and showing staff how to use them properly.
- Keeping everyone in the loop. Teachers, school staff and families updated on progress, including the home activities that reinforce what you are working on.
- Supervision. Supervising a PTA when one is assigned, in line with New York State supervision requirements.
What you need to be considered
- A master's or doctoral degree (DPT) from an accredited physical therapy program.
- A New York State PT license, kept current with triennial registration and required CEUs.
- Clear, professional documentation skills and comfort with Word and Google Docs.
- Strong time management and the independence to run your own schedule.
- An encouraging, patient approach with kids and an easy way of working with teachers and parents.
- Ability to complete NYS fingerprint clearance through the TEACH system and a pre‑employment physical with immunization records.
Three days is the one to ask for
At 21 hours a week you clear the benefits threshold, and you are paid for school breaks, school holidays and snow days. A 2 day schedule is available and the employer will discuss it, but it sits below that line, so the paid break and holiday time does not come with it. If the three day version works for you, take it.
What moves you up the list
None of this is required. It is what will make the employer want to interview you sooner.
- School based practice. If you have written IEP goals and sat in a CSE meeting, say so plainly.
- Pediatric experience of any kind. Early intervention, outpatient peds, clinic or hospital all count.
- Gait, mobility and positioning depth. Orthotics, adaptive equipment and assistive technology experience is a real edge here.
- PTA supervision. Experience directing an assistant under New York supervision rules.
- Teletherapy. Districts ask for it periodically, so prior experience is useful.
- A realistic Niagara County commute. The role is in district, and three days a week still has to be a drive you would make in February.

How this works from here
-
You send your resume
Use the form below. It takes about two minutes and it goes straight to Jamie, not into a queue.
-
Jamie calls you
A real conversation about what you have done, what you are looking for, and whether this seat is honestly a fit. If it is not, he will tell you that instead of wasting your time.
-
He presents you to the employer
With context, not just a resume attachment. You will know exactly who you are being sent to before he sends you.
-
You interview, and you get prepped first
You will know who is in the room, what they care about, and what they have passed on other people for. Then you get honest feedback either way.
Why the employer is not named here
Employers ask for confidentiality for ordinary reasons. Sometimes the seat is a replacement and the current person does not know yet. Sometimes they simply do not have the capacity to read a hundred applications themselves. You will be told exactly who it is on the phone with Jamie, before anything is sent anywhere. Nothing goes out with your name on it without your say.
Apply for this role
Resume plus four fields. Jamie reads every one of these himself.
Not this one?
There is also a full time school based Occupational Therapist seat open in the same county. Or send your resume anyway. Most of what Jamie fills never gets posted, because it gets filled from people he already knows.
